Projects Funded by The Naturesave Trust
In addition to individual projects, a proportion of The Naturesave Trust's funds is used to pay for Environmental Performance Reviews and Surveys
The Naturesave Trust has funded over 140 individual projects over the last 14 years, including renewable energy initiatives, wildlife conservation and management, recycling projects and sustainable transport projects.
Examples of recent projects funded include:
Recyke Y'Bike - Outreach Pilot Project: project to refurbish unwanted bicycles to promote cycling and reduce waste in the North East.
Bioregional Development Group – One Planet Products website: a 'one-stop' membership based website for developers and builders to encourage more sustainable building practices, based on the 'One Planet Living' principles.
International Otter Survival Fund – Otter & Wildlife Hospital , Isle of Skye: Support for otter sanctuary on the Isle of Skye which cares for adult otters and very young cubs until they can be released back into the wild.
Penistone Carry-a-Bag: Project to reduce the use of plastic bags in Penistone in South Yorkshire – encouraging local residents to use their own bags and retailers to provide alternatives to plastic bags.
Cornwall Waste Action – Think Before You Throw!: Support for a campaign to encourage visitors and locals to reduce waste and litter in the sea and on beaches.
Pilling St John's Primary School – wind turbine project: assistance with the funding of the installation of a wind turbine at the school, providing energy and income to the school.
The Barn Owl Trust – Owl Hospital & Aviary: project to upgrade and improve existing facilities at the Barn Owl Trust including a new hospital extension and rehab aviaries.
Community Healthcare Innovations CIC - Growing Kids Community Allotment: funding to provide a communal area where children and their families can learn about nature, healthy living, the environment and wildlife.
Trees for Health - Sustainable Greenwood Project: project to set up green woodworking area to utilise local coppice wood in Devon.
Glebelands City Growers: Purchase of a rotovator to help with the regeneration of a local market garden, providing local organic food to the surrounding area and employment for local gardeners.
Edinburgh Cyrenians - Apiary Extension: extension of existing apiary for the Cyrenians Farm which provides organic fruit and vegetables as well as a community for vulnerable young people.
Refurbiz Ltd: support for a charity that refurbishes white goods and redistributes them at low cost to those in need in the local community.
In addition to individual projects, a proportion of The Naturesave Trust's funds is used to pay for Environmental Performance Reviews – environmental surveys - for all Naturesave Insurance Commercial Combined policy holders, encouraging them to adopt more environmentally friendly business practices.
The Naturesave Trust has also set up a 'Naturesave Grove' of native trees in the Caledonian Forest in Scotland, planting a tree as a gift for every Naturesave household policy holder who has been a client for 10 years or more, as a thank you for continued support. For more information, click here.
