The Sustainable Schools education programme, managed and delivered by Education Officer Jessie, is a fundamental element of the work undertaken at Cae Tan CSA. Whilst the main business is growing delicious seasonal vegetables for 135 household membership, the CIC is able to reach the wider community to inspire, educate and advocate for much needed changes to food systems.
As a not for profit business, their outreach work is dependent on external funding so the grant will enable them to work with an extra school, enabling regular school visits to deliver lessons on pollination, climate change and basic growing techniques, support the creation of new growing spaces, upskill staff and deliver inspiring farm visits.
“Schools are really beginning to see the benefit of a soil-based syllabus,” says Jessie, “we have created an engaging and active programme that links directly to the new Welsh Curriculum and now more than ever we need to reconnect people back to the land, their food and nature”
